just an update

Still busy as hell this summer , went back to Holiday World a couple of weeks ago with Cyndi and CJ . Great park... free soft drinks parking and free sunscreen, very awesome waterpark and the roller coasters are freakin scary lol. We rode the Pilgrims Plunge , the worlds tallest water ride, that was a scary mother too. Plenty of bikini babes to top it all off. :-)

When i was doing the blog awards thing Lainy got the Bigballs award as TD of the year in 2007 and to prove that she earned it , in just a couple of months as a steal league td she is about to hit her #100 for the league. lots of xoxoxoxoxoxoxo big sloppy hugs and wet tongue kisses for you lainy just because we all know how much you love them :P You are truly the IronTd :-)

Who knows , maybe i will start giving awards again lol. im sore as hell every day, been sparring 3 days a week with some young fellows and they hit hard. it also isnt doing my carpal tunnel syndrome any favors . I am too old for this shit but im having fun. I think the worst part is doing pushups and situps. Or trying to jog. My cardio sucks. Smoking anything is not good for cardio, drinking whiskey probably doesnt help either. The upside is im getting close to as fit as i was when i got hurt back in 2000.

In the where are they now files Olivia stopped in to say hi yesterday. She said she misses me a little bit lol.

If anyone wants to see some good fights tune in to versus network sunday night and watch Miguel Torres vs Brian Bowles in the WEC bantamweight championship match. the undercard will be good too but that Miguel is one bad little dude.

I played a person using the name N81.... game rating 1208 , win-loss record 233-919. This person led the game off with the word echinate , then played words like splith, cycas and serotiny. Fucking amazing words.... pulled them out at the end of the timer every turn but still those words were botworthy. There were more but my mind is still spinning from seeing a player with that rating and record using those words. Good thing i have strategy lol.

Summer was here with a vengeance this past 2 weeks with mid 90's temps , ugh. Hard to concentrate on getting things done in that kind of heat. Thank God for the town's pools. And the bikini clad chewywagons there :D

Leagues 2 Year Anniversary

2 Years, wow!!!! When i started the league i wasnt sure it would last but dedicated players and staff continue to make Wordsteal League a fun place to play. As we enter our third year we hope to line up a few sponsors here and there to allow us to offer more and better prizes. If anyone who reads this has any ideas please pass them on. And thanks everyone that plays or helps with the league , you people kick ass!!!!

Now one little rant.... my schedule lately hasnt allowed me much playing time but every now and then when i come on and there isnt a tourney i go into rated and try to play the bot. All well and good but.... and its a big hairy butt..... who are these same few assholes that come in to watch? Its not just my games they watch either. Its annoying as hell when some jerk comes in to salivate ( and who knows what else) on the table while im playing and trying to relax. Get a fucking life you dildoes ....

updates n stuff

Again its been awhile since i bothered to post, sorry but its just that time of year. Yardwork after i get home from regular work so that i dont have to do it on the weekends (usually). Weekends im fishing ,camping , canoeing, spending time with my wife and daughter away from the house.



I recently had to have one of my dogs put to sleep because she had cancer and a few weeks after that we added two new pups to the family. one is a beagle and the other is a maltese. Getting them trained the way we want takes up a slice of time as well. If you want to see pics of them you will have to get the next wordsteal league newsletter.

Along with all of that i try to keep up with a few tv shows ... Rescue Me , CSI , The Ultimate Fighter and Monk. RescueMe has been kinda boring up until the last episode which i enjoyed.

Books..... My wife recently watched the vampire movie Twilight and then got the 4 books in the set. I have read the first three and while the general storyline ideas are ok the books are cheesy and pretty much suck lol. I have a copy of The Green Mile i am about to start on, i hope its good. I also read The DragonRiders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey and it wasnt bad at all.

Regular readers know i love the sport of mixed martial arts and follow it closely. In Illinois and the midwest we have a number of fighters and lots of amateur shows. I am 42 years old now and i want to climb in a cage on an amateur show and fight at least once before i hit 45. I have started a slow training process of an hour a day walking and jogging in the morning and an hour of either weightlifting , swimming or light punching bag training in the evenings. I have been doing this for about 6 weeks and im starting to feel really good. I hope to step it up soon at a school near here that focuses on jujitsu and grappling. We also have a TaeKwonDo instructor in town that will work out with me and he has a lot to teach. My wife thinks im fucking crazy but she has always had that opinion. For those interested , if i do fight it will be in the 205 lb lightheavyweight class.

On to the league, we have the 2 year anniversary coming up in june with right now close to 65,000 matches played. Holy Shit!!! i never thought it would go so well. Also i want to welcome all the hoyle players from FSW and Doublecross that have joined. I hope you enjoy the newer dictionary and the league. I know you miss the hoyle graphics but maybe you will learn to love steal like we do.

The Bird

Wow , again its been awhile. Since i last posted Hoyle closed down and steal is one of the few refuges for the wordox Hoylers. One of these players , one CeanGlace aka Coinsup aka foreverforwards aka cornholio etc Has managed to irk the hell out of me a few times in just a few days. See below.

He attempted to tell my how to run the wordsteal league during an onslaught of private messages , on the same day i had to have my 15 yr old Brittany Spaniel put to sleep, he insulted my favorite bird, the Crow and generally got on my nerves every chance he had. Well Cean , there is my other favorite bird, just for you , enjoy!!!

Now on to better things, i want to welcome redberry and omega as td's for the league. Redberry has been a td and admin for steal league and wayne aka omega has td experience as well. Also i want to welcome Lainy to the td team . If you have kept up with this blog you know that she is the Iron TD with over 2800 tourneys hosted and i appreciate her coming on to help.

Thanks to all the tds on the staff for your time and especially thanks to Nats for taking on the job of TD manager :-)

The Chores

Springlike weather is starting to come in here in Southern Illinois and this means my world takes a radical change. Home from work i go out and start sawing up tree limbs and stacking them. We use them for our firebowl and for cooking on our little BBQ pit. Cleaning up the boat and canoe this week. My first planned canoe trip is gonna be to Rim Rock Pounds Hollow lake in the Shawnee National Forest during the first week of April. I have never been to that park and cant wait.
Just finished reading As Summers Die by Winston Groom who also wrote the Forrset Gump Books. Excellent read . Also finished a book by Mercedes Lackey called Firebird which was based on a russian folk tale and i enjoyed it too.

Cases wants money now to keep Hoyle up and running. I cant see paying them to run the site unless they agree to update things which i seriously doubt is going to happen. I would rather donate to Mark Byers for wordsteal , the graphics may not be as good but the dictionary we use and other features like the no pinks bar make it worthwhile in my opinion. Im paying cases 20 bucks a year now to maintain the crappy redesign they pushed thru and seeing the results of that doesnt make a good outlook for hoyle updates . We will see what happens next month.

Saturday my little girl will be six years old. When we found out my wife was pregnant i remember telling Bluberry first and she was just starting a contest in wordsteal league where people had to guess a secret she knew and it just happened that a player named Tava was pregnant. Must have been something in the water that year because several people i knew had babies on the way. Seems like last week lol.

CJ is one smart kid and im not bragging, she will be ready to play wordox online and kick ass at it as soon as i let her loose. She already does ok against the cd and watches my games all the time. Watch out in just a few more years :-)

So anyway Happy Birthday to my baby!!!!

Getting old sucks

Been having eye problems. Blurry vision , dry eyes feel like someone is poking finger in eye etc. Went to dr and he says scar tissue in eyelids causing my problems. Im not getting a good coating of tears on corneas when i blink. Getting hit in the head when you are young really does catch up to ya lol. He put in protective contacts and we hope he can correct the cornea damage he is seeing. He said try to not spend as much time in front of pc straining to see for a few weeks while this treatment is goin on. If it doesnt work i will have to go to a specialist in Louisville Kentucky.
In the meantime i wont play as much.

Ijust finished reading the book Flags of Our Fathers by by James Bradley. Yes i know its a movie but i always liked books better. For people who have a grand vision of war and want to rush to send kids off to fight, they should read this. Some i doubt will absorb the facts in the book , but even so i recommend it to all.

For nearly a year and a half now I have enjoyed the fun and mostly the friendship of those of you on the Wordsteal site in the Ladder Room. You have been patient with me no matter how long it took me to learn how to play. You have encouraged me no matter how frustrated or depressed I got about my abilities. You have been there for me when I have sad times and good news I needed to share with someone. You have donated more Ladder Bux to me then I can count because I've never been able to earn enough to support my own entry fees.
You have done all this for me without ever asking anything in return. So I decided it was time for me to do something for all of you who have done so much for me. That is why I decided to become a TD. To try to give back a little something to all of you. I hope that as new members join and receive all the gifts this group has to give, that they will also take their turns in becoming a TD at the right time so we can all enjoy this together for years to come. Thank you all for what you do and enjoy the tourneys that I will set for you.

My Steelers won a record 6th SuperBowl!!! BooYa @ all the critics :P including my wife who went for the Cardinals. The payoff on that bet will be just toooo sweeeet. Also for MMA followers , Georges St Pierre beat the crap out of B.J.Penn in UFC action. Mixed Martial Arts is quickly becoming mainstream , the UFC did more pay per view sales than pro wrestling and boxing 2 years running. Real warriors those guys are, check them out if you love a good fight.

Man oh man ..... I have seen other people say it and im coming to believe they are right, 2009 isnt all that fine. Wordsteal crashed yesterday, Mark Beyers remains incommunicado so nfc when it will be back. Hoyle wordox will be closed at the end of the month, nfc if it will be saved at the last minute or die and never return. On that note wordsteal being one guys private site it could go poof at any second for good, maybe already has.

I am exploring the options out there , debating a return to the Everquest worlds or Warcraft or something. Online scrabble, literati and the rest arent that attractive to me. If anyone has ideas gimme a shout.

The # 1 spot changed hands a few times between myself and oxtail thru laddermatches and tourney games and next week looks to be just as interesting as we battle for league supremacy. In other league news Sneakypete is stepping down as admin , she will be focusing more on her TD pages website which i will feature in a post to come. We will miss her on the Admin team but she will still be around to play.

The New Year etc

2008 wasnt that great 2009 will be just fine.... lets all hope!!! I hope everyones thoughts and prayers are with DrKate as she recovers from surgery , she is a true wordox warrior and i hope you get well soon Kate.

In the past couple of years on the blog i did year end awards , not gonna do that this time because i just dont have the energy. In 2008 several friends of mine offline and online passed away and my grandmother passed away just before Christmas. I spent most of the year working 50 to 70 hour weeks just so my family could have the little extras in life and spent part of the year ill as well. All that combined has worn me out. So anyway...Im gonna try to spend the next year being a little nicer to "most" people i encounter and have fun in the game and away from it too.

Wordsteal league is still kicking along , no thanks to the site crashing freezing and lagging daily. I dont look for improvement anytime soon with the site but u just never know. Still i love the dictionary we use there and hope Mark puts in some time on the site.

Congratulations to my friends at WE league at hoyle. Its nice to see the Good , the Bad , and the Ugly all under 1 roof lol. There were naysayers but i knew you could do it with the right people in charge.

My friends over at FSW ladder are looking at the possibility of history being made this year as Lainy only needs 251 tourneys at this writing to hit the 3,000 mark. She is truly the Iron TD and I know she can break that mark this year!!

I would like to send my condolences to the FSW group and the family of ItsMeCH2 (Cindy). Cindy was a TD and player for years and will be missed by everyone. I am sorry for your loss.

Point Farmers

I was in rated at steal addying a tourney and decided to play the bot. The bot sent back a message that it no longer plays people rated over 2450 due to point farmers. I guess this means that the lobby hacks i have seen with ratings of 2450 and up to a whopping 2800 up will be either reduced to lobby posing, the norm for most of them, or testing themselves against the human element.

Im sure a few will get new names and continue playing the bot because there are people that just want a rough game without waiting on a poser to nut up and sit for a game or 3 but for the most part i expect to see the usual rated crap

With winter approaching things should pick up for steal league . Mummy is sponsoring a contest with 30 dollar gift on the line for the most games played in November. Ty mum xoxoxoxoxo.

I havent been to hoyle in a while but there is a serious lack of competition at steal. Not just in the league but in rated also. In rated you see players rated 2300 and up sitting at a table rejecting players until they get someone in the 1900s . Other players leave games if they are losing. In tourneys players take off if they lose a match instead of finishing out the tourney. Poor sportsmanship does not make you a badass wordox/steal player. It just shows how much of a dickhead you are. So for all the true players come on out of hiding , me and GG are waiting to whup ya lol

PASSING AND WEIRDOX GAMES

ON PASSING:
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Passing IS a strategy... Just as playing only two tiles when you can play more is a strategy. Just as not clearing when you can, because you are far behind, is a strategy. Expecting me to make a stupid play against myself (oh... I DO that alright, but never on purpose) instead of passing seems, quite simply, asinine to me. And the 'pretend attempts' by the people who say they would never pass, are just pathetic.
ON WEIRDOX:
For as long as I have been playing there have been variations on the game. Now there are more and the reason there are more is because most of us have been playing a long time and the new formats present a challenge to us. If you think it is because we are such poor players that we need the playing field leveled, think again. There's a whole lot more to this game than spelling. Some of our superior spellers are not so great at strategy and so they complain about the "weirdox" games as they have tagged them. I say this: If you want to show your superior spelling abilities off, go get in a spelling bee. If you want to truly excel at WORDOX, which is the game we are playing, learn to play all the variations well. I really don't know how some of you can be so smug about your abilities when you refuse to step out of your comfort zones.
I disagree with mums. I don't think the many variations make it easier for the new player. I think it makes it harder because they have so much to learn. The new games like A-B-C and some of the others are a challenge for those of us who have been around a long time, so I know they have to be for the newcomer.
I thought about that the other day when I was playing Barefoot. She is learning the game and she's learning all the variations. She is going to do some serious butt kicking in the future and you people who refuse to play anything but regular ox won't stand a chance against her, superior word knowledge or not. Again, and as simply as I know how to put it... If you want to just compete using your spelling abilities, you're playing the wrong game. Strategy is a part of the game of wordox and the variations step it up.
These are my personal opinions.

Want to talk about odd... I have the Hoyle Word Games CD with the rules for Wordox in the manual and it states
"If you choose to not make a word on your turn you may pass to your opponent" .

If need be i guess i can have the rulebook scanned and posted online for any naysayers out there that still dont understand why a pass button was included on the game.

Every league out there states in its rules that passing is an acceptable strategy. If i dont like a games rules i dont play the game. Makes perfect sense to me. I have been passed on and passed myself. It is a gamble, it can backfire. You can pass and the other player makes a play , your turn comes and you are stuck with nothing or a pass situation again and pass the other player plays gets more points etc etc. Or you can get what you wanted which was a win. Otherwise why would you play? Oh yeah , just for fun and not for ladderstats or tourney wins or a 100 other reasons. I would rather see someone pass on purpose than see them put up a bullshit play that we both knew was bullshit when you put it up there. And i have seen a number of players do just that. Other players opinions of me and my game philosphy can be summed up in 5 words ... Dont like me... bite me And i shall leave this post with a quote from a player that read the blog and emailed me

The people have asked about a recent post i removed. after i posted it i had time to think about it certain phrases came to mind such as ... He took a gun to a knife fight and he fights battles of wits with unarmed individuals and why the big fuss over a monkey ho? No matter what anyone says i refuse to believe that weirdox of any type levels the playing field for players that arent as good as other players. Crossox ,2 tile , peach grove , borderline and even no pinks are just bastardized variations of the game and if a player with even the slightest bit of ability would make the attempt to learn new words and observe strategies and apply them they might do better at the game and quit relying on the off chance of a cheap win when a player screws up in a weirdox format.

Im Back.... First thing i have to say is Wtg Nats on running up a 90 game win streak at steal league. Very nice!!!! She is an awesome player and she is currently staggering around with the weight of 2 of the championships inm what im will be now calling the Triple Crown. She is the current champ at www.myleague.com/wordsteal and she also holds the #1 gold at www.igl.net/fswordox/ . The holder of the 3rd jewel in the Triple Crown is Dorcas at www.myleague.com/we . Some players may not be interested in pursuing all 3 but it interests me to follow it and possibly get into the chase myself work permitting.

Wordox for Everyone

Each league in the hoyle merger had a great history. I had a hand in a lot of it with most of those leagues playing, tding, admin, fighting ,drinking ,cussing, raising hell and generally having an awesome time. Friday Aug 15th 2008 a new chapter in wordox league history begins with every league united under the banner http://www.myleague.com/we/ Wordox for Everyone. Games will be played in social room 2 and while im sure there will be the usual growing pains i hope it all works out well for the new group. The list of players that have joined so far is awesome and i look forward to playing against them all.

Apparently , to my udder( lol @ cait) amazement (im not the only one amazed brother!!!!) the leagues at hoyle have all agreed to merge. Now dont get hasty , this doesnt include the good people at FSW which is a cases ladder and not a myleague. This can only benefit the players involved in the merger and im glad that most people had sense enough to see that. I wish it had happened a long time ago but suggesting it even a year ago i doubt that players and admins would have wanted to pull together.

In one email Bluberry had this to say "If it's clear from day one that everyone is welcome, then the people who like to manipulate the list of players by accusations of cheating will be thwarted in their efforts from the get-go. The new league HAS to be for all. If we are asking existing leagues to close their leagues, then we must welcome EVERYONE. Players play where they are welcome." She is right , if you want to play just set aside past differences and play. You dont have to give a rats ass about the player you are across the table from.

Best of luck to the new league admins. I think you will have an easy job.

New Wordox Order and stuff

Thanks to my friends for the public and private support . You know who you are :-) I greatly appreciate it. I am as passionate as anyone about our sport , be it at Hoyle or Wordsteal. I am probably one of the few that gets adrenaline rushes when i play Dorcas or Richard or Ivystung just to name a few. I plan on being a force to reckon with for years to come in league play so get used to it.


It has been mentioned in the scheme of a new league that some players dont want to play other players and what if monkey and ceedie join will you play them? Hmmmmmmm ..... Kes vs King Kong and Godzilla? Sure i will play them and try to whup their sorry asses lol and if i lose so what... its just a game and i wont lose every time. Bring it on i say!!

Seeing people get mad and withdraw from leagues is sad. I have done it in the past myself and regretted it every time. I urge everyone to think before you click that button and if you did click it please consider returning. Every player in every league is a valuable asset not to be thrown away .

Interleague is Friday. Saddle up and drag your butts in to play. It will be fun and painless for the most part.

All this buzz about new leagues , the discussions and emails going around make me think about Holly. Wouldnt she just be having a blast with this? Can you hear the cackle* ?

kudos to the synergy exox and oxfest admins for considering a New Wordox Order . One league will be to everyones benefit in more ways than just the obvious. Instead of a few fractured leagues a single unified group might be able to get attention from the hoyle owners , or band together with leagues in other games to get that attention and get them to update the certificates so new players can get in to bring fresh blood to the games. If nothing else maybe wordoxers can get a franchise on the wordox game so that the 1 league and the operating cases ladder is all thats allowed to run in hoyle since after all, it is cases ladder owned. All that aside it would be an awesome event to have 1 league in place for everyone everyday. Hopefully everyone can see benefits. What few drawbacks anyone can dream up dont matter if everyone remembers to have fun.

The Wordsteal League

I went to hoyle today , 15 people in soc 1 no one in any other room. The ws league had already hosted 8 tourneys 75 matches played. Players on yahoo ready to ladder with a message sent. Yes im bragging about my league and the site. Its alive people! Players there. Keyboard enabled entry of your letters if you prefer typing them to dragging. Want no pinks ? pick no pinks and a bar is placed over the pink square. Qi ki oi ono ahi just to shoot out a few new words.

Sure there are a few buttholes but hey thats life. Rack up a table and whup them or play a few with the regular friendly people. There are plenty of those to balance out the butthole population. The timers are too fast you say? Well give it 2 weeks of regular play at the ws league and 40 secs at hoyle will seem like forever. We do offer longer timers on request tho if need be and the tds will host 40 sec tourneys if you ask. and for those that want to u can become a td and host them too.

I dont care if you are an admin td player butthole artist poet genius priest cop fireman prostitute go-go dancer whatever. There is a place for you in the ws ladder room. Interleague Buzz and stuff

It seems that no one is able to really get in and play at Interleague on the Hoyle website . I made the suggestion that the hoyle admins set aside their differences and egos , fold their leagues and create one league for everyone. Elect a head admin and a couple of helper admins and have a kickass league. Yeah i know , pigs will fly , snowballs will retain their moisture in hell, the world end in a fiery explosion....

Hoyle is dying. The leagues are dying. Look at the memberships on each league and most people that are left play at all of them. I know that some players hate other players and some would get their panties in a wad if this actually happened but if i can set aside the past and let players like Redfan or Olivia join my wordsteal league, and yes i have had plenty of problems in the past with them and others then i know you admins can do it. If you are going to ensure the survival of league play at hoyle while hoyle is still available then this is your time to act. I have encouraged my steal players that can access hoyle to come play in the leagues there but like i told Dorcas , thats just a band-aid. Major sugery is needed and merging all the leagues is the best bet in my not so humble opinion. If you want a league that runs 1 tourney a day when you can beg 4 players to join then sit on your collective asses and do nothing. If you want to actually have fun on a ladder again follow my suggestion or better yet come to wordsteal league where we have a new dictionary , a no pinks bar for that option and an active ladder with people ready to play.

Either way do something.

Sources close to the issue raise hopes that the site (wordsteal) may smooth out in days to come. Congrats to sneaks and bammer on getting their room admin wings , its been a long wait. Congrats to Oxtail on winning the laddergames contest, she played a lot of steal and will be getting her gold in the next few days. Things are a bit slower now hopefully when school starts it will pick back up. Friday at interleague needs players and tds and saturdays at synergy needs support from players , i hope to be at both places this weekend .

At Steal league we have so many players that cant get into hoyle, some are mac users and some have windows vista and some just have issues with their router. If we didnt have those problems I would allow my group to join interleague and promote a relationship with hoyle. As it is the ones that are able to get in do come to synergy sat nights or at least they have in the past. I personally miss the fun at syn and also at extreme but its a rare sat night in the summertime that i can get over to play and the exox tournies are usually too late for me. Im sure some rejoice over those facts knowing my history with some people but still i usually have fun when i do get to head over. If anyone ever devises a solution you can be assured i immediately offer my group the choice.

Man this league is rockin on games played, by tomorrow it will be over 32,000 and we are doin way over a 100 matches everyday now. Even without a contest i think it will continue but we plan on having more contests soon.

Bambi has been hosting some awesome bigbux tourneys , i hope you all get a chance to check one out, she knows how to throw a tourney lol. she has hosted 709 tourneys on her own in less than a year!!

wtf wordsteal

Man i am really frustrated with the wordsteal site and the lack of attention to server issues , room admin issues etc that go on with the site . Mark Byers , i realize , created and maintains the site on his own time and i assume he does so with funds from his own pocket but that isnt doing much for my mood when i want to get my fix lol . According to what i have read on the forums he doesnt accept donations which means he can do what he wants when he wants with the site with no one to answer to except himself.

So... What can one dumbass country redneck do about it? Well i can bitch about it on my blog for a temporary (5 minutes max) feel better fix , or i can explore the options to get people together to build a site that has people in charge that care about the game. I realize that it may be a pipe dream but i love the game and i want to be able to play night or day when i feel like it and not be subject to the whim of one person that doesnt give a rats ass who gets to play and who doesnt.

I am sure Mr Byers is a good guy and i dont want to offend him or any of his friends. I just want to play the game and its getting to the point where server freezing , boot issues and the site just not working at all have really pissed me off. What i am trying to do here is get some dialogue going and get feedback on the possibilities of a player owned wordox/wordsteal site. If you have ideas for getting people together , raising funds for this project or any other feedback please respond to me by on this site or by email or messenger .... perrin1967@yahoo.com

vacation etc

My mini -vacation at Holiday World was a blast. I highly recommend it especially the waterpark. It was a total blast. The park is very clean and well run with all the free soft drinks and sunscreen you want.

Thanks to everyone for making the Steal Leagues first year a great success. I wish i had answers for everyone on why the server continues to screw up and why wont mark byers respond to questions etc. I promise that if i hit the lottery i will hire a programmer and set up a site and do it right ;-)

When the site is up come in and try us out, we are doing well over a 100 matches a day with plenty of people willing to ladder between tourneys. The top ten is very active and if you work your way up you are guaranteed a shot at the #1 spot in a ladder set no matter who has the belt.
Our players and staff are ready to rumble so bring it on!

I want to welcome bambiella to the admin team for the wordsteal league. She is one of the hostingest tds i have ever seen and should do a great job as admin, Welcome Aboard BamBam!!
Also welcome to my 2 new tds oxit2me and misspelled. That brings us to 15 tds so far and as we grow i hope to get several more.
Playing Bronzelonna today she ghettostacked her way to a win over me. I made comment in the lobby about it but i mean no offense to her or anyone who employs that strategy. If getting 1 or 2 wins a year over me is all you are after lol then ghetto-stack away!!
Its good to see the laddergames going on. The top 10 players are really going at it with me or nats or whoever gets #1 giving daily sets to anyone who comes in to play. Thats the way it should be on a good ladder. If you want a set dont be bashful , cmon in and ask for 1 or join a table when a set is offered and the offers are being tossed out at all day long either in the room or thru yahoo messenger.
Gonna take a vacation and go to Holiday World next week. Thats an amusement /water park in Indiana and it should be a blast. Between now and then cya at the tables!!!

Thanks to the people who have asked me to start blogging again. I didnt realize that people looked forward to reading this stuff lol. Man .... where do i start?

On league stuff, this month marks 1 year for Wordsteal League. Holy Crap.... it has been successful beyond any thought i had when i created it. Counting myself i have 14 tourney directors with over 1600 tourneys hosted this year. We have 170 members with over 27,000 matches played. In my humble opinion thats pretty damn good and its all thanks to the tds. Sneaky Bambi Nats Oxy Mummy Mel Kissy GG Wenchie Val and my new tds Barney Tweety and Sallie. Thanks every one of ya.

With summer here , school out too im not getting much time to play. My daughter CJ is 5 now and there is always something fun for us to do. She loves fishing , camping, going out in the boat or the canoe ,walking thru the woods and a hundred other things. I miss playing in Synergy Saturday nights and helping Mummy with a tourney or 2 over at interleague. This fall when school is back in i will get more time to play.

Earthquake

Friday morning at 440 am i reached over and shut my alarm clock off and about that time what felt like a huge fist started hitting my house. The noise , a heavy rumble made me think tornado at first but it turned out to be a 5.2 earthquake. I live in southern Illinois and i have felt earth tremors before but nothing like this. It lasted about 20 to 30 seconds the first time with aftershocks coming off and on thru the morning with a 4.1 at about 1015 am being the largest shock agter the big 1 . My house sits only 3 miles from the estimated epicenter of the quake and it was a very scary surreal experience. Only minor injuries were reported in the area with several houses damaged. Not a fun way to wake up on a friday morning.....

Further to your recent posts about 'stacking' I would like write as briefly as possible about its relevance to game/group dynamic. I notice, especially in the social rooms, that stacking has become very frequent. I beleive that it has become such a preference that when new players emerge, they adopt the stacking technique because they have entered into an environment that is now educating them this way of play.

So recognisable is the dependency that some have on stacking, that the standard of the game can be questioned. Constant stacking slams breaks onto any momentum the game is trying to create, and in my point of view its overuse shows a lack of integrity to both the game and opponent. The community was once understood to be a place of energy and diligence, but now fewer players play in way that hints that they admire the game.

The main objection that a traditional (I loosely define traditional as word focused players) player has with players who stack is an imbalance of effort. It can be controversial to assume this, we do not know how much effort our opponent is putting into a game. However, the situation remains that a player who reveals and plays a very good word can then watch its value overtaken by the next player who decides to stack. Whether they do that decently, indecently, or with the perception of 'im just playing the game', doesnt really matter to the traditional player; the traditional player is aiming to set a high standard of play, and the second is using this to his/her advantage, constantly.

Stacking qualifies as an acceptable technique and can be used effectively. We should however be responsible for how much we depend on it. I beleive it boils down to game integrity. A game with integrity conforms to these rules;


(1) Both players consider their options and make diverse decisions. They want to be in the game to maintain or improve their standard. They wish that the other player admires their efforts.

(2) Both players respond well to each others calls. They do not resort to a technique that constantly & directly opposes the other players preference because this is a damaging indication and it narrows the games potential to a minimum.

(3) Both players understand that compromise can exist in a competitve enivornment. If one player shows example of risky (in a sensible way) play and is conveying a great sense of effort, then do not be obliged to up your game too - it can be callous to constantly take advantage of someones efforts by relying on them to screw up aswell as playing a safe game.

So that is my observed view of 'stacking' and the integrity of the game. These opinions are not meant to insult and they are entirely objectionable.

I want to send a shout out to my wife ;-) Today is our 13th wedding anniversary. We got together in 93 and married in 95 . Like all marriages it hasnt all been smooth but most of it has been awesome. I love ya babe !!

On to league business...... 164 members 162 active in past 3 weeks , 19,943 matches played so far since ladder was started , i am the current #1 . Anyone wants a title shot i am available for laddergames from 3 to 5 pm est mon- friday and off and on all day sat-sun unless im in a tourney. Speaking for the ladder as a whole if there are any who feel slighted at anytime no matter who the #1 player is drop me an email with the details...... I promise i will not reveal your name unless you approve it. The # 1 player should be available to ladder and if there is a problem in the future rest assured it will be taken care of.

The TOC for March will be Sat April 19th at 11 am i hope. Notices will go out soon. Also...if you shared a win in a true swiss tourney you will be invited to play and it will count for ladder stats.

couple more tips

Learn a new word every day use it in the game until its stuck in your brain. Also another trick i have seen that often works, think i have seen Dorcas talk about it too, is to use all the vowels up on your turn where you can. This can sometimes work to your advantage and doesnt hurt to give it a shot. In open pinks games i try to always look for the clear on any board too from the first rack on. I know some of ya look for that first stack but that will bite you on the ass if you arent careful.

Lisa aka GreaseGravey was saying that she took my advice i posted about playing longer words instead of stacking in some cases and it has helped her move her game to another level. Well i have more advice for some of you. Play Faster. Just because you have 40 seconds doesnt mean you need to use it all. The faster you play the less time your opponent has to study the board and playing fast can put them off their game.

Hangover..... ugh its true the hangovers do hurt more than they used to. B vitamins help but even with that ugh. I have been sticking to my New Years resolution fairly well and only drank a couple of times this year, last night being one of those nights and im paying for last night today.

Loyalty

As Wenchie said in her comment on the previous post i too have seen and heard rumblings about site loyalty , league loyalty etc. For some it is just personal choice wher ethey play , some have issues with software and others just dont like hoyle or hate wordsteal.

I love the newer dictionary, the no pinks bar and the ability to go to 20 and 25 sec timers at steal and others like the typing function. I love the graphics and setup at hoyle. I love my wordsteal league. I enjoy playing in Synergy Extreme FSW and Interleague at hoyle. I have many friends on both sites that dont cross over but that doesnt stop me from ENJOYING both .

I like to play scrabble in an offline setting with friends etc but i dont care for the game online but if i did like it online i wouldnt feel disloyal to my friends i play offline.

I pretty much wont play in a league that harbors people that have been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be cheaters with the lone exception being Interleague, i have my reasons for that, different post some other day for those that may care .

Anyway the gist of the post is have fun and dont begrudge other players the right to travel between sites and leagues.

The comp room at hoyle was packed out last night with players old and new to synergy. Everyone brought some fun with them so i didnt have to bring it all on my own lol. Seriously tho its really good to see that kind of cooperation between leagues , admins and players .

My partner "The Spicy One" Hollypeenyo came out for the 10 pm pards tourney and we were unstoppable one more time!! Great to see ya hotstuff!! I think i saw the PurpleGirple toss out the words "Force of Nature" lol after playing team pepperin lmao!! There were players i missed seeing this time but hopefully in the coming weeks they will be able to play.

Synergy league at hoyle has always been a lot of fun especially on Saturday nights. Well this weekend Synergy returns to the front lines with Tourneys at 8 and 9 pm est with a Partners tourn scheduled for 10 pm est. For those of you that can get in this should be a fun night with a bunch of rowdy hellraisers coming out to play. My longtime partner in the worlds greatest wordox tag team, The Spicy One , Hollypeenyo is feeling poorly (hoping she gets well soon) so i may have to find me a mystery partner for that tourney. A formal challenge by Oxtailsoup against Fruitbat was played out today in the ladder room. Fruitbat came out victorious in this encounter but im sure OT will be back for another shot at the top spot in the near future. The battle for the # 1 spot is very interesting indeed. Who will be the next to throw down the formal challenge gauntlet? Maybe someone will knock the bat off in a tourney? We shall see as the plot thickens!!

Ok , Richard decided to sit out for a few days and i sat out also so we both dropped for inactivity. The current #1 player on the wordsteal league is fruitbat. Fruitbat is a UK player and is the target for stathunters at the moment. LMFAO. Since stats are the new in thing im thinking wtf have i been missing out on? From here on until i get tired of messing with it im going to be a stats hound/whore / slut /manho or whatever you wanna call it. One comment that was left on here by someone who didnt leave their name ... imagine that... anyway here is the comment....

I really felt the need to get into that comment a little bit. The fun of wordox hmmmm lets see, I dont play at Oxfest so i cant ruin anyones fun there. Same with United league. I miss playing at Synergy. Holly Barb Ivy Nanc and all the rest. Had a blast there a lot of late nights but work hours keep me from getting in there when i want to. Extremeox same deal , I get to play there maybe once a week in a tourney if im lucky. Fsw i play once in awhile, they have quirky rules but fun players and a great td staff but im not there enough to matter much in the ladder hierarchy. Interleague i play in maybe one or two tourneys every other saturday if that. That leaves Wordsteal league. My league. We have 74 players active in the last 3 weeks. I normally only get to play there from2 30 pm to 7 pm weekdays est and various hours on the weekends. Which one of the 74 active players fun am i ruining? The ones who join me for laddergames or the ones who i meetup with in tourneys.
So i live and die by my stats? I am currently # 2 on MY ladder , i just looked. I could i suppose write wordman and ask for a ladderset or send a formal challenge if i was interested in pursuing the #1 spot but i really dont care. If i did care i wouldnt drop for inactivity half the time i do wind up on a ladders #1 spot.

In summary. Whoever you are you anonymous dickweed, Bite me. For the rest of ya, if its no fun playing me dont join the table when i set for laddermatches. Dont join the few tourneys i play in. Tell me who you are i wont join any you are in. I will even keep your name to myself. See how easy that is.

Thats some pretty funny commentary on my last post there. Live and die by my stats? Take the fun out of wordox? Wordox is already no fun? Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me Chet. Are you mad because you got beaten by a better player ? Are you mad because you are a social room 1 reject that tried to take refuge in a league where players compete for stats and got whipped again ? Reminds me of a few years ago a player got mad at me and called me a shark because i beat her pretty badly in a tourney. I was supposed to take it easy on her because she wasnt as good a player. She didnt want to try to learn from her mistakes or learn new words and improve her strategy but she did piss and moan because i do take the time for all of that. Why? you ask do i take that time? Because i like to play in LEAGUES where people COMPETE and i like to WIN because winning is FUN and losing SUCKS. Does that make me a stats whore? I dont know and dont care beat me if you can :P

One other thing , the comments havent been coming to my email like they should. If they had i would have removed the first one. Are people ashamed to sign their names? Who are you afraid of?

Election ,Ladder - Etc

I dont vote in presidential elections or primaries. My father in law was bragging about Bush and how much cash he has given away for AIDS in Africa etc.... I told him that was one of the main reasons i do not vote. If there comes a candidate who would base his platform on cutting out foreign aid and spending that money in the USA on our legal citizens , programs and infrastructure i would really get involved. That said im done with election crap ;-)

The wordsteal ladder is over 16,000 games played since i started it ..... not bad for a league that "they" said would fold in a month or 2. Tourneys keep on trucking and many more players are doing laddergames. Interleague @ hoyle is moving to Fridays starting march 21. Should be interesting. I had hoped to see it stay on Sats because Friday is more of a family night for me but i wasnt getting in there much anyway or anywhere else at hoyle for that matter. My straight options tourney at 7 pm est is back for the forseeable future , everyone come check us out....

Debunking the Myths

In the past couple of weeks players have mentioned to me that some of the posers in the rated room and a few other players have weird ideas about how a ladder works. First rumor i heard was that if you beat someone rated lower than you you lose rank. Bullshit!! Take the time to read how the ladder works, its all there in the rules. You gain rank by beating people in tourneys and laddermatches. You drop in rank by being beaten by someone ranked directly below you , or by people passing you thru tourney wins or laddermatch wins. Also being inactive will drop you in rank. You want laddermatches come to the room or hook up on our yahoo network and most players will play ya. Play them between tourneys or anytime u want. cya at the tables!!

Our new Td & stuff

We have a new TD , welcome aboard Wenchie :-) We are glad to have you with us! Tourneys and stuff

We are doing pretty well about having a regular 7pm Straight Steal tourney. The TOC is Sunday Feb 7 at 2 pm est. If you are qualified you should have the invite by now.

Lmao at the people who thought i was singling them out about stacking. Is stacking the guilty pleasure of wordox? The ones who do it turn after turn after damn turn should feel guilty lol. I promise you that if you try to expand your strategetic horizons you will notice a difference in your win-loss record.

More Stacking

My last post wasnt really meant to single anyone out, I wanted to make the point that depending solely on stacking as an attack plan is not the way to consistently win games. Sure , there is a time and place for stacking. There are ways to employ it as part of your strategy, including the now famous term coined by my partner Hollypeenyo --- Ghetto Stacking which is what you do when you are way behind and pulling out all the stops in hopes of a victory. What I wanted to get across was that you shouldnt let stacking dominate your game to the exclusion of any other strategy. Cya at the tables

Rescue Me ...... Stackers

I recently read that Rescue Me has been picked up for a 5th season. Due to the writers strike however production is at a standstill. I hope that if the writers get what they are after they put out a better product for the 5th. Season 4 kinda sucked.

Chronic Stackers.... love em, hate em , gotta deal with them. Cmon people, If you know decent words try to use them. Its not necessary to stack every play. I played one person recently that had opportunity to play on 1 of my tiles in 3 or 4 places for decent long words but the player had no place to stack on anything I had played. Instead of taking one of my tiles and playing the decent word this player opted to stack on their own word. WTF???? In another game with a totally different player the same damn thing happened. I wanted to laugh and at the same time i wanted to smash my monitor. Stacking isnt bad when its used right but damn try a few regular words too. I have seen players ignore an er or ed steal for 6 or 7 points to stack instead and leave the er or the ed in the rack. What the hell is that about ???? Pay attention to the game. Sure stacking every play will win you a game against an average player quite often but against better players you should try to think the strategy before you play. Ok enough of that catch ya at the tables.

NovelWoman

I got word yesterday that longtime Hoyle wordoxer NovelWoman passed away yesterday. She had an inoperable brain tumor. Many of you may not know her but when i started playing at hoyle many years ago she was very nice to me and any new player that came in. She will be missed , my condolences to her family. Thanks Rick for sending me the update i know she was your good friend also.

Spyware

Got up saturday morning very early intending to play steal and ox all day. Much to my surprise i kept getting weird popup ads about security and my desktop background had been taken over by a security warning. I ran adaware , spybot, antivrus and a few other cleanup programs but nothing would remove it. The spyware had names like smitfraud, virtumonde and outerinfo.

After running those removal programs all morning i got fed up, dug thru my junk til i found my restore CD's and wiped everything and reformatted back to the settings the pc had when i got it. That was more fun than you can imagine. It took the rest of the day Saturday and a good chunk of today to get the PC back to where i wanted it. On the bright side it runs quite a bit faster.

Things are going great at the steal league. New players come in every week and some old timers too. Glad to see them all. Check every day for tourneys they wont always be on the front page.

Well i see that Monkey boy and his little dogs made it in to a couple of tourneys last night. I hope someone cleaned the monkey poop off of the walls and the skank fluids off of the floor before they gave the room back . Probably no way to get rid of the smell tho.

Reminders.... I am trying most nights to host straight steal at seven pm. Wordsteal ladder room. Hope you can all join us. Synergy league at hoyle has tourneys most nights at 11 and midnight for the late owls. Wish i could be there but i leave the house for work about 4-430 am for work and being that i am old i need my sleep.

Today a former league member came in to steal ladder room and proceeded to bitch about the removal of a td about a week ago. This player also was giving a current td a hard time in the rated room. He demanded an explanation. The more i think about this the more it pisses me off. You dont go to any league admin anywhere and demand a damn thing if you arent on their ladder . Even then you might try asking nicely. Its really none of your effin business what a myleague does or doesnt do. If another leagues admins want to exchange info , hey thats cool. If you are a friend and want the downlow ,hey thats cool. Anyone else can bugger off :-)

A few resolutions and the 2007 Big Balls Awards

Happy New Year to anyone that reads this blog and those who might accidentally stumble over it while surfing. Last year was a decent year, i did a lot of great fishing and camping with my daughter and wife , got drunk and started a league at wordsteal one night , and did some other crazy stuff that doesnt need to be gone over lol. For 2008 i just have a few resolutions...

1. Cut down on the drinking binges on the weekends if for no other reason my health.

2. Become a better player. while that is fresh in your mind let me just say that no matter who you are and how good you are sometimes the tile fairy is going to take a dump on you and there isnt anything you can do about it ;-)

3. Get more exercise... again health

4. Coninue finding new and fun things and places to share with C.J. and Cyndi.

Now that thats out of the way lets move on to the awards. Before i start though let me say that if anyone wants to add to the list email me and i will give it front page attention.

Admin of the year...... TheMummykins at Interleague. Mummy is crapped on week in and week out by T.D.s and leagues that are supposed to be supporting her yet she continues to persevere and keep Interleague going. If the people that arent supporting her but should be are offended by that, good!! Mummy ya got balls!!

T.D. of the year....... Lainy at FSW in the hoyle cases ladder room. Wow This lady is the IronTD of wordox, she is at this writing only 7 tourneys away from # 2500 personally hosted by her!! Can we get a Holy Shit chant going for Lainy??? WTG Lainy!! you got balls!!

Player of the year..... Me!! Kes/Perrin After thinking a lot on this one im gonna toot my own horn , toot toot. Wherever i go to play, whichever of the 2 names i use, i come to win. I will ladder with anyone that asks or anyone who knocks on the door whatever room im in and i dont back down from man or machine. Wtg me !! I got balls!! (save the sarcastic comments for someone who cares :-) lol i don't)

Most improved player/s of the year. I have to give props to 2 players this year , First is Just_Fancy aka Pammiek . She has cranked out multiple wins on me, Dorcas and Wordman this year and i dont care what anyone else says she has come a long way. Sharing this award with her is Debbers at wordsteal , she is new to the game but she gives it her best every time, In 2008 i expect to see her crack the top10 at steal. Wtg PammieK and Debbers ya both got balls!!

Best new TD/s... Redberry SneakyPete Bambiella and OxtailSoup. You ladies have taken to tding like wildfire, i appreciate everything you 4 have done to make our league grow , and all the tourneys you have hosted. WTG , all 4 of ya got balls!!

Now for a little fun

The His Bark is worse than his Bite award goes to OldShep.... After the few email communications we had I understand shep a little better. He is like most players , he comes in to relax and get away from stress. Wtg Shep, ya got balls!!

The Failure to Communicate/CoolHandLuke Award goes to Wordman50. After his clash at Extremeox and his initial post in response to his critics he decided to let the rest go drop the matter and ignore his detractors . Wtg Richard , ya got balls!!

RudeSkank of the year award goes to Ceedie. Normally i wouldnt concern myself about this but... When a td takes time out of their personal life to host a tourney, if you join that tourney and the TD puts aside personal differences and congratulates you on individual wins and on winning the tourney if you do, the least a player could do if he/ she is gonna skank up my tourney is thank me for hosting. My opinion of course may not be everyones but im the writer here so its what you get.... WTG Ceedie you smell like balls.

Once again if anyone has anything they want to add to this like categories they want to award on or resolutions they have or award categories they want me to comment on just shoot me an email, i will post just about anything for anyone.

As for me and i speak only for me here , I truly do not mind losing to what you call a lesser player. I find that in most cases it ramps up their confidence, usually (hopefully) they are thinking Hey!! i beat this s.ob. once i can do it again. That makes it a more competitive game and a better experience for both of us. However i do hate like hell to lose to players that are my equal or better skillwise such as Wordman ,Dorcas etc and there are quite a few in the etc category. Thats just my competitive nature kicking in. Ok Moving on......

I hate to disagree with you Shep but i think you had a beef about playing me that evening admit it or not. Otherwise why would you not go ahead and play me and take up the situation later with a td manager or ladder op instead of letting me take the moral high road by giving you a free win? Instead you bullied the td . How you ask ? You knew it was too late for her to change the pairs yet you caused a scene in the lobby , refused to play the match and threatened to report her if she posted the win to me. I hope you felt good about it.

Now for the last bit "By the way, as an aside to your little remark about thumping my fat head ........ I didn't get to do CP work with the Dubai Royal Family for 3 years by not being able to look after myself :o)))) " Great !! If i ever meet you i wont feel bad about thumping you ;-)

Rank Hounds / Leapfroggers

I Have been asked to post about the above mentioned subjects so i will start by putting up what the rules say about it.

Rank Hounding: Players in the Top Ten are expected to be as active after they reach the top ranks as they were before. In other words, if you are playing 20 games a day to make it to the Top Ten and then only play once a week to hold your rank you may be penalized.

Leapfrogging: Players in the Top Ten should try to play the person ranked directly below them at least once every three days. If you are found to be avoiding challenges that put your rank at risk your account will be penalized.

on the first an example would be , if you are the # 2 player on your ladder and you play every day and capture the # 1 spot then disappear for a couple of days or avoid laddermatches or tourneys with the former #1 playing that in my opinion is rank hounding. On leapfrogging... If you play on a regular basis and enter tourneys on the ladders then there should be no problem. If you capture the # 1 spot just playing in tourneys on a ladder that is active with laddergames i think you should make more effort to be there for tourneys until you are beaten if you dont intend to offer laddergames in the room in which the ladder plays. If you want a shot at #1 usually all you have to do is ask for a ladderset or enter tourneys the # 1 player is in. Most players will be happy to play you. If you get turned down for a set then go to your ladders website and click the rules link. There you will find out the steps to take. You can also contact the league admins for help. Steal up and Down / more

Wordsteal was up for awhile yesterday, we managed to get in 1 tourney. I went on to bed expecting the best today and found out that its down again :-( Such is life.

At hoyle yesterday morning in soc room 1 i was looking at some of the player profiles and saw this quote.... There aint no cure for fat bitch!!!! rotflmao that player sure hit the nail on the head. I can think of a couple of people that sure fit the bill for that little quote ;-) Ran across at least 1 yesterday.

I hope Mark gets steal up and running again today. The graphics may not be hoyle quality but i miss the new dictionary. If it doesnt come up i will look to ladder at hoyle today. Cya at the tables
