You tell me!" ....Yes you are right , i have thought about my decision to forfeit against Amplify which i have now done twice. I didnt do it to disrupt the tourneys , i did it out of a personal animosity towards him, not out of ill will towards the TD's in question. Hindsight is 20/20 they say and i apologize to you, Ivystung, who was the other td involved in a forfeit and any players that may have been offended. Next time i will withdraw from a tourney instead of playing if said asshole joins after i sign up.
While a league does function better when everyone plays everyone else we all know that is a fairy tale that will never come true. The initial issue for debate however wasnt about me forfeiting against a scumbag who was banned from 3 leaguesand who i share a great deal of mutual dislike with as well, it was about players who refuse to play someone else on the passing issue after the leagues , the tourney rules, the rules of wordox etc etc all state THAT IT IS ACCEPTABLE TO PASS AS A STRATEGY. Your words... "In the case of passing, when you know ahead of time your opponent will use that "strategy" - you can plan to play (or not play) accordingly. But you don't always know ahead of time, and that's when a pass feels "unethical" - because you've played the game under one assumption, and it got stomped on."
So in other words in my opinion if you sign up for a tourney there shouldnt be any assumptions when its LEGAL to pass and ANYONE can do so. And just for the record the reason i brought this up in the first place is because of a couple of lobby situations and conversations i saw recently , not games that i have personally been involved in, but if i feel the need to pass im going to do it up front ,im damn sure not going to feel guilty about it or worry about whether my stock in others eyes goes up or down, especially since its never been a blue chip stock anyway, anywhere .

Aaaah Controversy

Did i say i didnt want anyone pissed off at me ? LOL we all know that if i havent pissed off someone, somewhere , by the end of the day i havent had a good day. Well a few have weighed in with opinions on passing . The 1 thing Dorcas said that i did not agree with was the prime function of the pass button being for a rack of completely bad tiles, the submit button serves the same function, why add another button? Saying that, i usually use the same strategy Dorcas spoke about, when passed to i uisually take the free turn, but not always. And it depends on who im playing too. I notice that its usually the women of wordox as opposed to the men who get ticked off about passsing.... usually.
I dont think it makes a player weaker to pass on the final play of the game , i have seen it "bite them in the ass" tho as one person put it. However you rarely see that end of game passing going on. If the leagues and Hoyle and the rules of wordox agree that passing as a strategy is acceptable , why cant players who choose to not employ that strategy accept that there are those who will use it , and finish a game without forfeiting or otherwise causing a scene including refusing to play a person if they do use the strategy. THAT was the main reason for the initial post. And mummy , hang around ox wouldnt be the same without ya ;-).

Passing as a strategy

Would someone please explain to me what the big flap is all about over passing as a strategy? If you read the rules of wordox they state "If you choose to not make a word on your turn you may pass to your opponent" . Thats straight from the hoyle word games rules of wordox. There is also if people have noticed a button specifically for the purpose of passing. Every leagues rules also state that passing is an acceptable strategy yet there are people who get all pissed off if you pass. When the game was invented why did they put a pass button there if it was not intended to be used as a strategy? In scrabble you can pass your turn and exchange tiles , am i not correct in this? The reason for this post is because i have had it come up several times in the past few weeks in email and lobby chat. If you are in a league game or tournament competing to better your rank or your stats and a play will cost you the game but a pass may give you an oppurtinity to win please explain to me why it isnt ethical to pass. I have seen people pass and it cost them the game. In my opinion if you are in a league and your opponent passes you should use whatever strategy you can to counter the action.... if a play can be made that wont hurt you play it, if not pass back.... gamble , take a chance .... but please dont distort the rules of the game and of all the leagues by protesting when a player passes as a strategy, it makes no sense and cause only hard feelings. I personally refuse to pretend the pass button isnt there until someone can prove to me that it wasnt put there for use as a strategy. I may or may not choose to pass , it depends because i do take wild gambles and they do payoff sometimes but i damn sure dont want anyone pissed off at me when im staying well within the rules.

I want to make sure everyone knows , this site is a battleground , a mudwrestling pit , an open forum for any jabroni who wanders in to air his/her bitches anonymous or otherwise. I dont care who slings mud here , leave your name or not. And Shadow, if someone hasnt been affronted by the stuff i have put out so far something isnt working. By all means raise all the hell you want here, suggest formats tell us about whatever you want , comment on others comments , call Amplify a dirty s.o.b... i dont care just enjoy.

one more time on cheaters

The thing that chaps my ass about any cheater , (names deleted) etc etc is the fact that they arent gonna go away. The fact is they multiply. More and more people are cheating . I said once before bring on the cheaters, i can take them 9 times out of 10 because they suck at strategy. I fucking hate to give away a win to that pile of shit(name deleted) when like someone else said everyone else is gonna suck his ass and play him. I know cheaters will be a problem here forever , do we let them rule us? tough decision all the way around. Stand on integrity and forfeit or fight it out and take a loss if they can swing the win? damned if i do and damned if i dont. im gonna post this leaving out the cheaters names because i have glorified them enough already.

i Got an email from a player who raised some points i totally agree with and here is an excerpt from that letter..... So what if a great wordox player doesn't like certain formats? That doesn't make him any less great and that's why ice cream comes in different flavors. . . not everyone likes the same thing. For Junior to say that a "true champion must be able to win at all formats" is like saying a great track star has to be able to win at sprints, hurdles, and distance races or he's not a true champion. Well said!! Wish i had thought of it first lol. Anyway that being said i will consider possibly playing in some of the "gimmick" tourneys just because my day isnt complete without a few headaches.

Train Wreck

Hey Pard , did you get the number of that bus that ran over us last night? It had to be a bus cos my head hurts really really bad. Remind me to stick to beer on saturdays during the summer please. When i drink whiskey i get us into trouble because after a few shots i lose my mind and think i gotta finish the bottle. I think Mike (Ivystung) snuck up behind me and beat the hell out of me a couple of times too. I seem to have a hazy recollection of my pard kickin me a time or 2 as well. LOL i love a good drunk. If i had been out on the town they would be bailing me out this morning so Thank You God for creating Wordox to keep my drunk ass at home safe.

Partners time

Hopefully we will have a nice turnout for pards tonight. I realize that most people have a life outside of wordox, i gave mine up when i got married. But still i know there are plenty of oxers out there that could play but dont have a partner. Dont let that stop ya , cmon in and we will help get ya a partner and if you like the partner you get try teaming with them on a regular basis and you will enjoy it more and more. sometimes ya win sometimes ya lose but hey its not like we play for money. all it takes is time and testicular fortitude. cya there !

Your profile reads no fear and no excuses i see? Well you got 1 thing right , there are no excuses when you get caught redhanded cheating. As Perrin says here, "To be the Man ya gotta beat the Man!" If you can only win at straight ox and no pinks, then you're not a real champion. Being able to win in any format shows true prowess. A willingness to play in any tourney, no matter the format, shows the true heart of a champion: graceful when he loses, grateful when he wins. If you can't conquer something such as two tile or no oranges, then you really aren't "the Man" (or Woman), now are you?
Ok Junior, There are 2 reasons why i can use that quote you mentioned, First because its my blog and i like to talk smack , Seond reason: For the past several years i have played in EVERY league against the very best players in wordox in every format and day after day, night after night ,year after year i have consistently beaten the very best players in wordox in all the formats. Hell in FSW you cant find a tourney thats regular ox and i beat all them folks too. Not to say that the very best players dont kick my ass as often as i whip them because they do. But over the long haul i feel like i have established myself as one of the top 5 players in the World by doing what i mentioned above and that is beating the top players in every league , not just one tiny little group. Formats such as 2 tile and no oranges etc i have tried , won at them and wrote them off because in my opinion they are a pain in the ass. And free turn tourneys, unless its an obscure word why bother? Want a reward like a free turn ? Earn it. 1 more thing .... Whoooooooooooooooooooooo

Interleague Day Saturday

Once again Interleague day approaches and once again not a friggin thing in my email from any league including interleague itself supporting ,suggesting , promoting or even taking a dump on the idea of getting players to come out. I wrote United admins a few weeks ago when they were supposed to host and the replies i finally got were just whiny bullshit about there being other games out there and our players have diversified yada yada my aching ass. I know the people who read my rantings play and some of you are in a position to reach out to a broader base of people thru league newsletters. Give it a shot... we should be having 10- 30 person tourneys or even larger, not cancelling tourneys. Im gonna keep bitching about this until i turn blue in the face so look for another post sunday .

I agree, they needed an ego boost and im glad we could help. and thank you for the kind words, hopefully i will never lead you into hell unless we have plenty of snowballs. Now today being wednesday im throwing down the gauntlet. Nah ,im gonna pick it up and smack everyone in the face with it. I challenge you all to be at interleague 30 mins before the partners tourney if you need a partner so we can hook ya up and if you already have a P just be there on time. My reading list

Since im bored i figured i would post what i read last week and what im starting on this week. Last week i read Forrest Gump and Gump&Co. by Winston Groom and also Better Times Than These by Winston Groom. I had read the first 2 once a few years ago courtesy of the public library but i found copies in a used bookstore and bought them. The first 2 are laugh out loud funny. The movie Forrest Gump was funny but the book and the sequel are just funnier than hell. The other book was a Vietnam war story, not bad all in all. I also just finished Lucifers Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Its a comet hits the earth and the aftermath story and its scary as hell to me. I hate the thought of anything hitting good old Mother Earth of a size large enough to wipe out whole countries. Starting to reread the hobbit and lord of the rings books now. been several years and i want a refresher. bbl

Another piss-poor day at interleague

I am a member of every league that participates in Interleague and once again this week i got nothing in my inbox suggesting any attempt at all from ANY league supporting the group. What a complete load of horseshit. Yeah the regulars know about it but there are plenty of fringe players who could stand a reminder now and then. I guess there are better things to do than type a few lines in one newsletter a week asking people to come out and play. Pathetic.

Yes, i did. How you ask? I came into the tourney sober as a churchmouse and that is inexcusable . Apologies Spicy!! I had good moments during the tourney but none of my usual drunken brilliance and it cost us. And by the way , Junior dont ya know that once one of those grubbyhanded women get their claws in ya you are in serious trouble? Watch out kid , the life you save may be your own.
