Pompous Ass
Richard/Wordman has been called a pompous ass and much worse by many people as im sure i have as well. In any sport (yes wordox is an indoor sport if scrabble, chess and poker are sports) there are people that the masses love to hate. Generally those people are the best in their chosen game and know that they are the best and dont mind letting everyone else know that they are the best. We have what is called attitude. The people that i have the most respect for are those that keep coming back for more no matter how severe the beatings are. Those are the ones that do get victories that they can gloat about until the next time they have to face one of us. Egos clash and I have had words with Richard in the past, as a matter of fact we cussed each other like dogs more than once but we have a healthy respect for each other because we know we are 2 of the best in the game and if you dont believe that prove me wrong!

Pompous: adj. ostentatiously dignified or lofty.
Is this Wordman? Not quite. I prefer to think of him as sharp-witted, razor-tongued,
funny and at times even hilarious. But sometimes, as we say here in WI, he can be down right owly (cranky, to you outside the Midwest). He's the guardian of our grammar, our resident spell-checker, and like a few of you others he's a walking talking word list (definitions not included). Richard was one of my first friends and mentors in Wordox. He seemed awfully quiet at first....honest! But I picked away and chattered away until his armor cracked. I've taken many a thrashing from him, enough that I need to keep stealing cait's feathers to plump up the pillows I keep at table 32. But on the odd night when my brain is working, my eyes focus, my feet don't hurt and bedlunch is handy, I beat him. This happens 1 in maybe 50 games.
At times the sharp tongue might be a little too sharp and people take his zings a little too seriously. Then again, I'm sure people sometimes tire of my moodiness and how cranky I get over some of my losses just as I sometimes tire of people who are chronically late, the ones who keep debating pass/no pass until my eyes cross, the ones who whine, the ones who....well, whatever. We all have sides to us we should keep on our own side of the monitor. But we've gotten comfortable enough with each other that we let our faults shine through along with our good manners. Sort of like in the real world.
Ostentatiously dignified? This is the man who gets the giggles from 'teeth, hair, nails' in Hodgepodge, who can quote George Barnyard Shaw. And if the thought of cheaters makes him crazy, I've heard a few of you others rant on the subject as well.
Jeff, I've beaten you once, I think, so maybe I have to slog through another 50 or so matches to get that 2nd win. Or send you a case of beer before the game as a bribe. Either way, I know the cushions are there at table 32 for my recovery.............Q
Well darn. I've been corrected! The phrase is "teeth, hair, CELLS"!
Can't resist putting my 2 1/2 cents in this one. I can't begin to tell you how much I have learned from Richard (and you too Jeff). As a somewhat average player, I look forward to learning from the best. And you guys are 2 of the BEST! Goes for you too Rick. I believe much of my ability comes from all of the words and strategies you have all taught me.If you would just keep outa my seat! Just one more thing...when you say Richard is a card, that would be a Joker. His pun's are the absolute worst, and I love them. BTW, my fav. word I learned from Richard is ootid...lol. Love the blogs, Jeff. Never stop. You make my day!
