wordox peeves
Everyone has their pet peeves in ox , we have heard all about passing. 1 more of mine are thge people who use the applause button after almost every play. Is this a ploy to distract or are they truly awed by the fact that i just played the word sri? Im sure most of you have run across this peeve of mine . I will applaud a very nice play but i hate to overuse the button. Let me hear about any pet wordox peeves out there. you dont have to use your real name if it makes you uncomfortable. Cyas at the tables ;-)

Yeah, nothing gets my goat like someone trying to be nice. Don't they know this is a cutthroat game? Put them in the same category as all the dirty weasels who bring light-hearted fun to the lobby. I never could figure out how to focus on my next play or turn my sound off - I guess that's why I lose so much and have such a miserable time!
I am with you on the applause button after each play, or when the board is cleared and people say nice clear (when I play a common 4 letter word to clear). This is a game that people need to actually need to know how to play and spell, not to use the sound buttons.
the applause isn't as much a distraction as it is funny. in regards to peeves, a second for me has reared its annoying little head...saying "nice try" to me when i make a play that isn't good. a nice try results in points, not a zero that is followed up on my end by a string of obscenities (just ask Dorcas). save your breath, don't try to soothe the sting from the bad play buzzer, and just take your turn. i'm a big boy, if i screwed up, i can take it.
Was he talking about people being nice or people applauding after every single play made? My peeve is snobby snotty sarcastic people.
A big boy that doesnt like courtesy? Yes you are a big boy.
well "anonymous", jeff was referring to the chronic applauders after every play, not the "wow, great play" applauders. the former is too much, the latter is just fine. also, "a big boy not liking courtesy"....courtesy is not telling me i just screwed myself out of a turn by making a bad play. please refer to my previous post, don't say anything and take you turn. my new pet peeve, from reading your posts, is people who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. if i want to hear nonsensical crap, i'll just fart....it'll be just as informative and riveting as the stuff you say.
I agree! Can't stand when I hear applause after every single play or when I clear the board. Makes me feel guilty not doing it back to my opponent. I shouldn't have to feel like a shit when I don't reciprocate.Hate the nt when I mess up, too.Just plain think it's stupid.
Ok, well here's a pet peeve that hasn't been mentioned here til tonight... how about someone who loses a game and doesn't report? How about a person who selectively plays? How about someone who does both? Selectively plays, choosing to play only those that they *think* they can beat and then oops! they lose and then weasel out of reporting by claiming the other person never told them it was a ladder game. Are you kidding me? You are in a league room and you agree to play someone...you sit at a table and begin playing a 45p/45s set and then when you lose you are going to say that you didn't know it was ladder??? Hmmm... why didn't you say that when your opponent reported to YOU when they lost??? How convenient. When two members of the same league sit down to play in the league room, it is IMPLIED that they are playing league games unless otherwise specified. Everyone understands this and to state otherwise is pure manipulation of the ladder in my opinion. I am especially upset when this is done to a very nice person who will, for lack of a better phrase, lie down and take it. Well, it's downright dirty and despicable if you ask me. To do that period, but to do it to someone who you know won't fight back; how awful, how sneaky, how manipulative, how cowardly! I think anyone who places that much importance on winning a game and earning a few measly rating points that they'll do it by being dishonest, manipulative and unfair should not be allowed to participate in league play. League play should be about good, clean, fair & fun competition... Yes, I know, it's not always like that in the real world of league play and maybe I sound idealistic... but... people like that ruin it for the rest of us and it just makes me sick. I wish everyone would just refuse to play people who act like that; to enable this behavior only encourages it.
Here's my pet peeve. If you come to the Synergy room to play, and you and the person you sit down to play are both Synergy members, it should generally be assumed that all matches are Synergy ladder matches unless decided ahead of time that they are for 'fun'. To lose a match and then say "You never said they were ladder matches" is inexcusable. Excessive applauding, cackling, etc. may be annoying, but this particular habit is just plain WRONG! A few of us were in the room tonight when this happened. I for one will not accept an invitation to play this person, and won't allow him to join me at a table.
I am one of those people who did not report once. It was right before a tourney in United & I hadn't played for a few days. Another player & I got Byes, so I asked him for a warmup. We played, he won. Hours later he asked me why I hadn't reported. I was under the impression that a warmup was not a league game. I felt foolish & I suspect he thought I did it on purpose. I remedied the situation immediately. Sometimes the failure to report is not intentional. On the rare occasion when I do play a Ladder game now, I always report. If they don't...no biggie.
That's totally different and a misunderstanding. My pet peeve is someone who intentionally sits down for a ladder set with someone they assume they will beat and when they lose THEN decide to cop out and say that the other person never specified it was a ladder game. They have no problem letting the other person report their loss for the 'non-ladder' game, but when it's their turn to report, it's a whole different story. I am not complaining about situations like you described. Things happen. What peeves me is the intentional manipulation such as Q and I spoke about.
not really a major peeve, but a minor nuisance is the people that come will come in and ask, "is there a tourney coming up?". take 5 seconds out of your life to scroll down the main page and see the tourneys listed or click the "tourney calendar" link and find out. another peeve is the people that come after a tourney has started and are shocked and appalled that the td didn't wait 10 minutes before starting so they could play. i'm fairly certain everyone here knows how to tell time and can figure out how to make it into a room on time, barring some computer/internet problems. i don't mind a 5 minute grace period for the start time, that's what i had when i was a td, but any more than that is ridiculous and just reinforces the idea that a player can come in really late and still be able to play. to reiterate, learn to tell time and figure out how to show up on time.
I'll add my two cents, I suppose.
My pet peeve is when people don't report in caps. Is it that hard to hit the Caps Lock button? Honestly.
I'll admit, too, that I'm guilty of the "nt" thing. Sorry if it bothers anyone; it's a habit. :)
you want to know another of my pet peeves is snotty people who think they are so self-righteous especially some i wont mention Do they honestly think this will win them popularity points, not really but it does make them hypocrites as well as wiseasses , grow up be open to other possibilities the world might be better off!!!
if this is all about getting popularity points, how many points do the people who post anonymously get? if you're gonna trash somebody, at least have the balls to use your name and not hide behind the "anonymous" curtain. or are you too afraid that people will think you're snotty and self-righteous? i imagine some of the stuff i've said, some people haven't liked. oh well, shit happens, my life will go on.
my comment wasn't directed at you richard, i just thought about it after you came in. i have no beef with people that have computer issues. i guess you glossed over where i said "barring computer/internet problems". the problem is the people that are conditioned by late starting tourneys that think they can stroll in late and still get in. i could've covered my little outburst with an apology last night, but at that point i had a few drinks in me and my attention span was rapidly shrinking. so i give you a belated one now.
